Warning for 100km/h damaging winds in Tasmania’s East and Northeast
DAMAGING winds in excess of 100km/h are likely to develop over parts of Tasmania’s East and Northeast this morning.
DAMAGING winds in excess of 100km/h are likely to develop over parts of Tasmania’s East and Northeast this morning.
A strong north-westerly airstream is crossing Tasmania today, bringing winds around 60-70 km/h and peak gusts of 100km/h around St Helens, Swansea, Bicheno, Fingal and Scamander.
The winds are most likely over elevated terrain, with gusts expected to be more isolated along the East Coast. The winds are expected to persist until early this afternoon.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
SUPERVISE children closely;
CHECK that family and neighbours are aware of warnings;
MANAGE pets and livestock;
SECURE outdoor items including furniture and play equipment;
BE prepared in case of power outages;
BEWARE of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving; and
LISTEN to local ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.

Showers are also forecast across the state today, with snow falling on Mt Wellington down to 1000m.
