BRIAN Burford’s office comes with some of the best views of the city.
His company, Tassie High Rollers, will be spending two months painting the clock tower of the Art Deco Temperance and General building in central Hobart, at heights up to 50m above street level.
The building was last painted in 1982. Mr Burford found a couple of signatures from the painters who last worked on the site with the date inscribed next to their names on the inside of the tower.
“I’m a rock climber and I love the ropes and being on the ropes – I see all of Hobart,’’ he said.
He climbed the tower yesterday to makes sure painters found nothing “unexpected”.
The clock is just across from the building and desk of media consultant Richard Gerathy who photographed Mr Burford atop the tower.
“Everyone in the office is amazed how brave these people are,’’ Mr Gerathy said.
Tassie High Rollers is the only industrial rope access painting and decorating company in Hobart.
They have previously painted the Matsyuker and Bruny Islands lighthouses.
They will also touch up and polish the embossed concrete letters T&G and the clock face of the CBD building.
“It will look a lot brighter and neater when we finish. It will glow,” Mr Burford said
