A 175-year-old cottage that has “got to be the last of its kind” is heading to auction this weekend.

Since listing the Georgian brick cottage about a month ago, LJ Hooker Hobart sales consultant Marcus Freebody has received a “truckload” of interest in the heritage listed property.

He said Hobart city’s original cottages have almost exclusively been developed or pulled down making 40a Patrick St a one-of-a-kind.

“It has got to be the last one in the city, how many more cottages of this vintage could be hidden out there,” he said.

Hobart also has very nearly no land left in the CBD making this property’s 800sqm with mountain and city views all the more tantalising.

The site was granted to Hobart politician John Dunn in the mid-1830s.

Within the last few weeks a similar offering that was half the size fetched $440,000.

Mr Freebody said the fixing a price on a piece of history was no simple task.

“The question is, how much is something as unique as this worth, that’s why we decided to let the market dictate the price at auction,” he said.

The auction will be held on site at noon on Saturday.
