Young woman dies in two-vehicle crash on Murchison Hwy southwest of Burnie

UPDATED: A woman aged in her 20s has died after a two vehicle crash on the Murchison Highway near Waratah, southwest of Burnie.

A WOMAN aged in her 20s has died after a two vehicle crash on the Murchison Highway near Waratah, southwest of Burnie.

Police said the crash happened about 4pm between the Waratah turn-off at Guildford and the junction with Cradle Mountain Link Road.

The woman, who has not yet been formally identified, was driving a silver Nissan Pulsar and was the only person in the vehicle.

She was travelling north on the highway.

A male driver, the only occupant of a white Toyota Land Cruiser travelling south, was also involved in the crash.

Police said the man sustained suspected leg injuries.

He was taken to the North West Regional Hospital for treatment and was in a stable condition last night.

The section of the Murchison Highway where the crash happened was closed for almost five hours while crash investigators were at the scene.

It was expected to be open by about 9.30pm.
