CANADIAN lumberjacks, racing pigs and a site bustling with attractions combined to make this year’s Royal Hobart Show a success.

Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania chief executive Scott Gadd said yesterday’s final-day attendance of about 10,000 people was a little lower then previous days but he was pleased with the total.

“We had great attendances on Thursday and Friday and historically when that happens the numbers do drop a bit on the Saturday because people have already been,” he said.

“Last year’s total was 45,000-46,000 and we came in just under that this year, so we’re very happy with that.”

Mr Gadd said the weather had also been especially kind to the show this year.

“I think it must have been the best weather we’ve had in five years — just for once the wind stayed away and that’s just unheard of in my experience,” he said.

Mr Gadd said the Canadian lumberjacks and the racing pigs had been the clear favourites and he was thrilled with the entertainment program in general.

“We spread the entertainment all around the site to encourage people to move through the whole site and it worked well,” he said.
