Planned fuel reduction burn at Ridgeway to help cut bushfire risk

THE Tasmania Fire Service will conduct a fuel reduction burn at Ridgeway from today, weather permitting.

Public access to the area in the foothills of Mt Wellington will be restricted while the burn is under way.

The planned burn, in Hall St, is part of a statewide program aimed at reducing bushfire risk.

The total area of the burn will be about 65ha and should take three to four days to complete.

Smoke may persist for some days depending on wind conditions.

While the fire intensity will be low, the blaze will generate flames, smoke and ash.

People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke.
