Online canteen paves the way for students to net a great lunch
HAVING to bring lunch money to school is a thing of the past for Princes Street Primary School students.
HAVING to bring lunch money to school is a thing of the past for Princes Street Primary School students.
The school is one of a handful of Tasmanian schools that has moved its canteen online, and canteen manager Kate Burridge said sales had increased and the canteen was selling a greater variety of meals.
“It’s very much easier,” Mrs Burridge said.
When the canteen received lunch orders on paper, Mrs Burridge said she always made a few extra meals in case a mistake had been made.
“Now everything’s exactly as I need it,” she said.
The children register online and select the lunches they want.
Payment can be made by credit card or parents can load money into an account.
The online canteen at Princes Street has been operating since second term.
“When I first started it I had a few emails saying it’s wonderful, it’s so much easier not having to find $1 and $2 coins,” the school’s office manager Janelle Bird said.
Mrs Bird said not having to count about $800 in coins and then take it to the bank also saved time and was much easier to manage.
“Kate’s even found her sales have doubled,” she said.
