Downgraded: Tasmanian town told to remain vigilant
Flooding is no longer expected in Tasmania’s north this morning after a flood alert was downgraded.

Hadpsen residents are asked to stay vigilant following after a flood alert in the Westwood Bridge area was downgraded from Major to Moderate.
“Advice from the BOM is that moderate flooding is occurring along the lower Meander River around Westwood Bridge this morning due to floodwater from the South Esk River,” an SES statement said.
“No flooding is expected along the Meander River from Meander to Strathbridge.
“Since 9am on Tuesday, no significant rainfall has been observed in the Meander catchment, and no significant rainfall has been forecast for the rest of today.”
Some flooding around the Westwood Bridge may still be hazardous.

EARLIER: Residents in Hadspen on the Mersey River in the State’s north have been told to prepare for flooding with the river expected to exceed the major flood level this morning.
A statement from the SES said residents, particularly those in flood prone areas, should prepare now.
“Moderate flooding is currently occurring along the Meander River and major flooding is likely,” the SES said.
“Residents in Hadspen need to prepare now and move animals and personal property in flood prone areas to higher ground.
“Residents in the Hadspen area need to remain aware and continue to monitor the situation into Wednesday morning.
“The Meander River at Westwood Bridge is currently rising and is likely to exceed the major flood level and may peak around 7 metres Wednesday morning from 6am.
The SES said floodwaters have the potential to reach buildings with a “slight chance” of inundations of buildings along the adjoining South Esk River.
The Westwood Bridge is also expected to be inundated.
“Potential for Meander Valley Road to be inundated between Saunders Drive and Travellers Drive,” the SES said.
