AN accidental fire at a Huonville pizza shop has caused about $100,000 damage, the Tasmania Fire Service says.

TFS crews attended the blaze at Tower Pizza on Main St about 3.30am on Wednesday after a pile of tea towels caught fire in the kitchen area.

It took three fire brigades from Huonville, Franklin and Grove about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

The fire caused $100,000 damage to the inside of the building.

TFS said the fire was accidental and caused by a pile of warm washing, which spontaneously combusted after coming out of a clothes dryer three hours earlier.

TFS fire investigator Adrian Petrie reminded the public of the potential dangers of storing items after they had been removed from dryers.

“Ensure clothing and other items coming out of a dryer are completely dry and cool prior to packing them away,” Mr Petrie said.

“Items that are packed away in a pile before being completely dry and cool can result in spontaneous combustion.”

Tower Pizza has sent a thank you to TFS on its Facebook page and said the team would take some time to make a decision on their next step.
