Health experts say local lettuce lovers have not reason to fear

TASMANIAN health authorities have reassured consumers that packaged lettuce sold in this state is not the subject of a salmonella-sparked recall.

TASMANIAN health authorities have reassured consumers that packaged lettuce sold in Coles and Woolworths stores locally is not the subject of a salmonella-sparked recall.

A Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services spokesman said the recalled salad products — supplied by Victorian growers Tripod Farmers — were not distributed to Tasmanian stores.

Two people have been admitted to hospital and others made violently ill after eating lettuce infected by salmonella at supermarkets in Victoria.

Salad products supplied by Tripod Farmers were recalled from sale from Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia after it was discovered they were the source of the salmonella outbreak.

Tasmanian salad grower Houstons issued a statement yesterday reassuring customers that while their products were sold in both supermarket chains, the affected products were produced by the Victorian grower not Houstons.
