Deloraine craft fair’s mass appeal with Australia’s biggest display, sale and working demo of artists

ART lovers can get interactive at this year’s Tasmanian Craft Fair as feature artist Esther Shohet invites the public to make their mark on a silk painting she will later donate to charity.

Yesterday, Ms Shohet was busy packing up artwork and supplies ready to leave Rosetta for the home of Australia’s biggest display, sale and working demonstration of artists, Deloraine.

Before she left, Ms Shohet stretched a piece of silk across a frame and adorned it with a design in hot wax.

At the fair, which starts on Friday, patrons will be encouraged to add their mark to the painting by colouring a small section so that the entire painting, except for the initial drawing, will be completed by the public. The painting will then be donated to the Rotary Club of Deloraine to be sold to raise money for community
projects.

Tasmania Craft Fair director Tim Biggs said the opportunity to interact with working artists and artisans was an important part of the event’s success.

Since the Tasmanian Craft Fair’s inception 35 years ago, $3 million has been raised to fund a variety of development projects.

The fair runs from Friday until Monday.
