The annual Seafarers’ Festival contended with less than ideal weather, but Clarence Council arts and events officer Dane Hunnerup said the turnout of about 3500 people was pleasing.
Mr Hunnerup said the highlight had been when a balloon artist built a balloon galleon and floated around the bay brandishing her balloon sword.
The Buckland family has attended for the past few years and embraced the spirit of yesterday’s event in full costume.
Finn, 8, was awarded best pirate, while brother Oliver, 4, made the most of a jumping castle and fishing activities.
Father Ben said there was more to look forward to each year as his sons grew older.
“It’s always a fun day out,” he said.
“There’s plenty to watch and it’s a free family event, which is great.”
The Seafarers’ Festival is held by the Clarence City Council on the Sunday of Royal Hobart Show weekend each year.
