The rush to be part of football history has captured the imagination of footy fans across the state and Grant Pitchford, of the Kingston Beach RSL, says his place will be packed come 5pm on Monday for the live stream launch of the Tasmania Football Club.
Pitchford, 46, said Kingston members would be among the tens of thousands of people watching the TFC reveal its team name and colours.
“Everybody is quite excited and for those who don’t have a ticket to an official event will be showing up to the club to support the club and watch the unveiling of the new AFL team,” Pitchford said.
Pitchford played for Kingston and was on the board for four years, and his son Mac now plays for Kingborough Tigers under-18s.
“It’s very exciting about the opportunities for Mac and his teammates, and hopefully some of them will get the opportunity to play for Tasmania,” Grant said.
“They are some of the players who will be around when the team comes about.
“Tasmania has the talent to produce future AFL players and you only need to look at the 2023 AFL Draft and where the Tassieboys were selected.
“Going forward with the pathways they are putting in place, we will produce more and more of our own home-grown talent.”
Clarence City Council will host a live site at Charles Hand Park, the future home of the Tasmanian team’s High Performance Centre.
“This is a momentous occasion, and it is very fitting that we can bring the announcement to the community from where the community oval of the High Performance Centre is planned to be located,” Mr Blomeley said.
“A Tasmanian AFL team is well overdue and there is an air of excitement building around the announcement of the name, logo, colours, and jumper.
“I’m sure this will be a fantastic event where the community can come together to celebrate the launch of our AFL and AFLW teams.”
TFC executive director Kath McCann said the club was delighted at the widespread support.
“Our launch event is about unveiling the ideas and stories that have come to life through our recent surveys and community events, and we can’t wait to share in this moment with the community,” she said.
“It will be a community-centric occasion right across the state and we want as many Tasmanians as possible to experience this special moment.
“We are so grateful to all Tasmanians that have been part of our journey so far, as well as those attending Monday’s launch events, the live stream launch parties and elsewhere via the AFL.com.au live stream.”
