The blaze at the beachside community south-east of Hobart also destroyed a vehicle parked outside the house.
The Tasmania Fire Service was called to the blaze on Carlton River Rd about 7.30pm.
The two-storey brick home was well alight when fire crews arrived and took just under an hour to bring under control.
Crews from Dodges Ferry, Primrose Sands, Midway Point and Orielton attended.
No one was injured and fire crews managed to protect neighbouring properties.
Fire investigators returned to the scene this morning to determine a cause, with authorities deeming the fire suspicious.
Meanwhile, police suspect a fire that caused $50,000 damage to a vacant Rokeby property on Sunday was also deliberately lit.
About 8.30pm on Sunday fire crews attended the Joseph St blaze, which Tasmania Police said was limited to scorched carpets and smoke damage.
Police are also investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a property and two vehicles in Lyne St, Eaglehawk Neck, on Sunday.
