SA weather: Rain forecast for much of the state as wintry conditions set in

There’s more thunder, lightning and rain on the way for SA as a wintry blast sets in.

‘Sub-zero temperatures’: Aussie weather ‘feels like single digits’

A wet start to the week is expected to get even wetter while the cold conditions set in and the wind picks up.

Adelaide’s West Tce rain gauge recorded 9.4mm overnight and 13.8mm was recorded at Mount Lofty.

However, up to 25mm is set to lash the city with a chance of a thunderstorm in the late morning and afternoon, bringing the possiblity of hail.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting heavy falls are possible about the southern suburbs with northerly winds of 25 to 35 km/h tending northwesterly up to 25 to 40 km/h in the middle of the day.

The rain is tipped to hang around with up to 15mm on Wednesday for Adelaide, before easing on Thursday.

The maximum temperature is only expected to reach 15C in Adelaide on Tuesday with the stormy weather expected to say around most of the day.

Falls will be heavier and temperatures much colder in the Adelaide Hills, with Stirling expecting up to 30mm of rain on Tuesday and 30mm on Wednesday, when it will only reach 9C.

Elsewhere around the state, showers are expected over the agricultural areas earlier this week, with higher falls around coastal areas.
