‘Heartbroken’: Teen undergoes surgery, blood transfusion after shopping centre stabbing
The teenager, described as a ‘beautiful kid’, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A teenager has undergone emergency surgery and a blood transfusion after he was stabbed in a shopping centre brawl in Adelaide’s north.
Emergency services rushed to the Elizabeth Shopping Centre at Adelaide’s north about 2.30pm on Wednesday on reports of a disturbance between a group of youths near the food court.
South Australian Police said a teen was allegedly stabbed in the torso during the fight, with paramedics rushing him to hospital with serious injuries.
The 18-year-old has undergone emergency surgery and a blood transfusion, according to the Adelaide Advertiser.
His brother told 7NEWS “nothing like this has ever happened”.
“He’s a beautiful kid (with) amazing grades — that’s why I’m so mad,” he said.
Police have arrested three teens, a 17-year-old, 16-year-old and 14-year-old, for alleged involvement in the fracas.
It is expected the boys will be charged on Thursday, with the Adelaide Advertiser reporting the trio will likely front the Elizabeth Youth Court on Thursday.
Mobile phone footage of the incident shows several teenagers fighting, with three of them carrying knives.
A large knife covered in blood was pulled from a recycling bin in the shopping centre.
Friends were reportedly “heartbroken” over the incident, with claims it may have been gang-related, the Advertiser reports.
“Police are investigating the incident and will review CCTV footage to identify other people involved in the assault,” the police said.
“There was no disruption caused to centres trading.”
In June, a brawl between teenagers in a food court triggered a lockdown at Adelaide’s Marion Westfield shopping centre.
