SA Police investigate crash at Victor Harbor hospital
A driver whose car crashed into the side of a hospital is being treated metres away from where his car struck the wall.
Police are investigating how a car managed to crash into a hospital, causing structural damage, moments after hitting a Tesla.
Paramedics didn’t have to go too far after the Holden four-wheel drive crashed into the Southern Fleurieu Health Service building at Victor Harbor Hospital, south of Adelaide, about 9.10am on Wednesday.
The driver, a 61-year-old Encounter Bay man, was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Moments before the man’s car crashed into the wall and an office inside, a Tesla was also damaged after it was hit by the same vehicle.
SA Police are investigating the incident.
The driver of the Tesla, Daryl Stichel, told ABC that he’d helped rescue the 61-year-old man from his car.
“His car caught fire a couple of times,” Mr Stichel he said.
“We used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire and helped the police drag the guy out.”
Neither Mr Stichel or anyone inside the building was injured.
It’s understood ambulances are being diverted to other hospitals until at least 5pm on Wednesday.
