SA ‘in good position’ for restrictions to ease in coming weeks as 1505 new cases, six deaths recorded

South Australia is in “a good position” to ease restrictions in the coming weeks after recording 1505 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths.

South Australia has recorded 1505 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths on Monday.

Hospitalisations have decreased from 289 to 281, with 21 people in intensive care and four on ventilators.

There are more than 19,000 active cases across the state, with more than 2000 people recovering from the virus over the past 24 hours.

There were 1633 new cases and two deaths reported on Sunday.

Premier Steven Marshall said the state had the highest booster rate in the country but urged all eligible residents to get theirs.

“We know that those people that are not fully vaccinated are massively over represented in our ICU statistics,” he said.

The Premier on Monday morning said some restrictions needed to remain as the state made its way out of the Omicron peak.

He told 5AA radio that restrictions for the fitness sector would be considered next.

“We’ve just got to get through this little period at the moment,” he said.

“We’re in a good position in the coming weeks to further reduce restrictions … but the last thing we need is a second wave, so we'll do it cautiously.”

He again reminded residents it was safe to go to events and dine out.

“Our hospitality and arts sectors have done it extraordinarily tough over the last couple of years … so the best thing we can do is to go out and safely support them,” he said.

“If you can book to go to your favourite cafe, restaurant, pub or club, you’ll be doing South Australia a favour because it will get thousands of people back to work.”

It was only days ago that density restrictions for hospitality venues were eased, elective surgery for children was again permitted and QR codes in retail settings became void.
