Road weather alert for dangerous driving conditions in Adelaide Hills ahead of deluge due on Sunday
Police are asking motorists to take extra care in the Adelaide Hills, as fog and cloud cause dangerous driving conditions today – ahead of an expected drenching later this week.
A road weather alert has been issued for the Adelaide Hills, warning of dangerous driving conditions east of the city.
The Bureau of Meteorology distributed the alert in the early hours of Wednesday morning, cautioning motorists to reduced visibility from fog and low cloud.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jenny Horvat said a broad westerly flow is bringing moisture to the area that is settling in higher areas.
“It’ll last for most of the morning while showers are on and off,” she said.
SA Police is advising motorists in the area to “slow down and take extra care”, while maintaining a safe distance between vehicles and using headlights.
Since 9am Tuesday, Crafers has recorded 4mm of rain, followed by 3.4mm at Mt Lofty.
Showers have also made their way to the CBD, with more on the way throughout the remainder of the week.
Adelaide is set to receive 1 to 4mm on Wednesday and Thursday easing into Saturday.
Further north, showers will ease on Wednesday and clouds will take Port Augusta through to the weekend.
The Riverland will also receive some reprieve as flood waters continue to threaten the region, with cloudy conditions and temperatures in the low 20s forecasted for the next few todays.
However, it won’t last as another wet weather system is expected to move in on Sunday and into early next week.

Heavier falls are expected to hit the state, including in the Riverland and mid-north as another low pressure system comes across from the west. Residents throughout the Riverland can collect sandbags free of charge, with flood warnings still in place throughout the region.
Ms Horvat said “it’s not looking like it will be as much as what we’ve had, but it’s a ‘watch this space’ kind of situation”.
Adelaide is expected to copy up to 20mm on Sunday through to Tuesday.
