Penny Wong says her lockdown dog Shadow is now a member of the family

Penny Wong wasn’t expecting her lockdown dog to become such a sensitive member of the family. And now the senator is sharing the love for a very good cause.

Without a shadow of a doubt, South Australian Senator Penny Wong’s beloved pooch has been a source of comfort during the trying Covid-19 pandemic.

The Labor senator says her playful black labrador, named Shadow, is a lovely “lockdown dog”.

“Like so many other families, we succumbed to some very strong representations from our daughters during the long stretches at home at the start of the pandemic,” she said.

Ms Wong said Shadow understood when her human family members need a pick-me-up and is always there to give a little nudge.

“Shadow seems to know when someone in the family is in need of a cuddle or a friend to play with,” she said.

“If I’m on a particularly stressful call, she will often come and give my hand a nudge.” Shadow will feature in The Advertiser Foundation’s special edition calendar, 2022 Power Pets.

The calendar, which also includes the pets of Premier Steven Marshall and Police Commissioner Grant Stevens, will raise money for Ronald McDonald House.
