Mum’s heartbreaking social media post before 6yo Charlie’s death
A social media post has revealed the heartbreaking reality for young Charlie who died last week shortly following her sixth birthday.
A social media post has revealed the disappointment of six-year-old Charlie in the weeks before her death.
In the post made on Facebook on June 24, mother Crystal Nowland blasts Mount Gambier Prison for cancelling a video call between Charlie and her father.
“My heart is breaking so much watching my baby girl being upset, especially on her birthday,” Ms Nowland said.
“MGP cancelled her zoom birthday visit with her daddy. So Charlie doesn’t get to show her presents or unwrap some presents with her daddy and do birthday cake with him. F@#k you MGP”.
Charlie was found unresponsive by paramedics in the early hours of last Friday at her home in Munno Para in South Australia.
She was rushed to Lyell McEwan hospital where she died shortly after.
Her allegedly malnourished state prompted a serious neglect investigation by police.
It was later revealed Charlie had been diagnosed with coeliac disease which can cause malnutrition.
Following her death, neighbours recalled the little girl’s ongoing illnesses and lashed government services for their alleged inaction leading up to the tragedy.
One neighbour reported contacting SA’s Department of Child Protection on a number of occasions after allegedly seeing Charlie unwashed and with head lice, but said “nothing had been done”.
Even after Charlie witnessed her “drug-fuelled” father stab her mother in a horrific attack in January 2021 according to the Advertiser, she was still not removed from the home.
Another neighbour described the decision by child services not to act after that incident as “despicable”.
“The fact that nothing was done to remove those kids in that predicament is also tragic and disgusting as well,” they said.
“We want answers for what’s happened to Charlie.”
