Miss Nude Australia competitor disqualified after fire routine set curtain alight and evacuated club

We all expect a strip show to be hot, but the heat of Miss Nude Australia last night was so smokin’ that they had to call the fireys.

A performer in Miss Nude Australia has been ruled out of the competition after she set a curtain alight and triggered the strip club’s fire alarms and sprinklers.

The unexpected blaze began after Harley Van Dangerfield lit a “ring of fire” around herself during the first heat at Crazy Horse Revue on Hindley St in Adelaide last night.

She was the second of seven women due to take the stage and had been representing South Australia.

“I’m so sorry everyone for everything that happened last night,” Ms Van Dangerfield wrote on Instagram, The Advertiser of Adelaide reported.

“To all the competitors and the management team, it was an accident.

“I have officially been disqualified, good luck to everyone in Miss Nude this year.”

A male patron told news.com.au a bottle of flammable liquid was left too close to the fire and too close to one of the curtains.

“I think she’d finished with the batons … and she’d put them down and that’s when she squirted the ring of liquid around her and then lit it,” he said.

The fire ring set the bottle alight and then the curtain.

“She just kept on dancing,” he said.

“The fire alarms started going off and next minute the sprinklers are going all over the stage.

“I reckon she was doing a shower show.”

Ms Van Dangerfield “persisted” while the flames were extinguished by the backstage crew, he said.

The club — which was packed with up to 200 people — had to be evacuated due to the alarms, sprinklers and “black smoke from the curtains”.

“They just said, ‘Everybody out,’” the patron said.

The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service received a call for help about 12.10am.

“It appears that there was an incident last night involving a small fire and a curtain and that that was extinguished before MFS arrived,” a spokeswoman told news.com.au.

“MFS received a triple-0 call, attended and then did an investigation only, was not required to extinguish anything and departed the scene.”

The male patron said the firefighters were warmly welcomed by performers and the audience.

“The girls were getting photos with the fire engine and then police turned up,” he said.

“It was all taken in reasonable humour.”

The show was cancelled but those who missed out have been added to tonight’s second heat.

The Miss Nude Australia website describes it as “the most recognised and prestigious competition of showgirls” in the country focusing on “the art of striptease”.

The concept began at Crystal T’s nightclub in Sydney in 1991.

The finals — involving the winner and first runner-up from each state — are held over three nights at the Adelaide gentlemen’s venue.

Last night’s heat promised “unique and innovative shows incorporating elaborate and erotic costumes, water works, aerial and what else can spring to the ladies’ wildest imagination”, according to a Facebook event.

The Adelaide club has since made light of the fiery performance, posting flame emojis in an update on social media.

This year’s Miss Nude Australia grand final will be held tomorrow night.
