A young boy’s attempts for a sweet treat backfired after his arm was jammed in a shopping centre vending machine.

The four-year-old came into trouble at Adelaide’s Seaford Central shopping centre on Thursday morning.

Dramatic scenes unfolded after the boy spotted a skill tester machine that contained chocolate.

The prospect of a sweet treat was too much for the youngster to resist and he promptly reached into the machine to try to grab a snack.

However, chaos arose when his arm became stuck and emergency services were called.

Adelaide's Metropolitan Fire Service crew spent an hour attempting to free the boy before finding success.

He was taken to hospital suffering minor cuts to his arm.
