Descendants bikie gang leaders to be deported from Australia

Two founders of the Descendants motorcycle gang are expected to removed from Australia and returned to their home across the Tasman.

Two high-ranking bikies from Adelaide have been placed in immigration detention and are expected to be deported from the country.

The brothers, aged 64 and 65, are founding members of the Descendants outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) and were detained on Tuesday from properties at Ingle Farm and Prospect.

They are pending their removal from Australia to New Zealand after a joint multi-agency operation saw the two men’s visas cancelled on character grounds.

Under the Migration Act 1958, the minister or a delegate has the ability to refuse or cancel a visa if the person is considered to not be of good character.

By removing the brothers, the gang will be left without leadership and will reduce the capacity to commit criminal activity, like distributing drugs, the Australian Border Force say.

“This factor alone certainly enhances the safety of the community,” it said in a statement.

Since 2014, more than 300 OMCG or organised crime members have had their visas cancelled or refused.

Australian Federal Police detective acting superintendent Gavin Stone said both men had criminal records and their association with the motorcycle gang posed a “significant risk” to the community.

“Outlaw motorcycle gangs exist for one reason only – to make as much money as possible, in any way possible,” he said.

“They are sophisticated, violent organised criminal networks that have zero respect for the law and regard themselves as above it, and the Descendants are no different.”

ABF commander of special investigations Greg Linsdell warned any non-citizen with a criminal history and involvement with a criminal organisation to expect to have their visa cancelled and be deported.
