Shocking pictures have captured the moment a crane tipped over on to an Adelaide Hills high school.

Emergency services were called to Heathfield High School on Thursday morning after the large vehicle fell.

Working on a part of the school under construction, the crane tipped before the first bell, falling just moments before a busload of students arrived out the front.

Luckily, all staff and students were uninjured.

“The crane has fallen over basically down into the construction pit where they are doing the foundations for the new building at Heathfield,” a man named Steven told ABC.

“The top of the crane has just clipped the staffroom. It’s very lucky that no one was injured.

“The driver walked back to the ambulance with a knock on the head, but he’s OK.”

Steven said his wife had been driving out of the school as the crane fell.

An SA Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a man in his 60s was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital as a precaution after the incident.

A Heathfield High School spokesperson said the school, the building company and the education department were working together in relation the incident.

“We are aware there is an incident at the school site,” the spokesperson said.

“Staff and students are safe.

“We will communicate to families as soon as we’re able.”

SafeWork SA inspectors visited the site after the 70 tonne vehicle tipped.

An investigation is being conducted.

“SafeWork SA cannot release further information at the moment while the investigation is underway,” a spokesman said.
