Covid-19 SA: State ‘on track’ to come out of lockdown after one local case
South Australia remains ‘on track’ to come out of lockdown on time after it recorded one new locally acquired case of Covid-19.
South Australia has recorded one new locally acquired case of Covid-19 on Saturday, bringing the state’s total outbreak number to 16.
Premier Steven Marshall said the new case was already in quarantine and linked to the Modbury cluster.
He said the man in his 60s had attended Tenafeate Creek Wines on Sunday July 18 from 1:45pm to 4:30pm where another patron was infectious.
There are now nine cases linked to that “high transmission” venue.
The man’s wife had already tested positive to the virus and they are both isolating in Tom’s Court, the state’s dedicated Covid-positive hotel.
Mr Marshall said it was “good news” to only report one case out of the 23,410 tests conducted on Friday.
“We remain on track to come out of lockdown next week … and have students back at school on Wednesday,” he told reporters.
However, Mr Marshall said it was still too early to say what level of restrictions would be in place once the lockdown lifted.
Three international flights that were due to arrive in Adelaide on Monday and Tuesday have also now been cancelled after the Premier asked Prime Minister Scott Morrison to postpone them.
Mr Marshall said the request came from SA Pathology clinical service director Dr Tom Dodd because authorities were “very concerned” and wanted to avoid running out of capacity with the high level of testing that’s underway.
The state has the capacity to complete 18,000 tests within SA Pathology per day as well as more through the two other private labs.
“We are in a lockdown and we don’t know what is going to happen on Monday or Tuesday so we’re asking the Commonwealth to back us,” Mr Marshall said.
Chief public health officer Nicola Spurrier said she expected more positive cases linked to The Greek on Halifax and the Tenafeate winery to come through.
But, she said she was “pretty confident” SA Health had now contacted everyone who had been to those “high transmission” sites and were all in isolation.
Despite the ongoing good results, Professor Spurrier reiterated the importance of people currently isolating after attending exposure sites to complete their 14 days of quarantine, unless SA Health told them otherwise.
There are about 18,000 people who have so far been identified to have been to an exposure site and not all of those are required to complete two weeks of quarantine.
Professor Spurrier also confirmed a woman in her 80s, who is in isolation, was transferred to the Royal Adelaide Hospital on Friday night where she remains in a stable condition.
SA Health updated its exposure site list so it now includes a popular Bunnings and Drakes supermarket.
The Drakes Supermarket at the Clovercrest Shopping Centre in Modbury has been listed as a tier 1 exposure site and anyone who visited the store on Wednesday, July 14 from 10:30am to 11:30am needs to get tested immediately and quarantine for 14 days with their household contacts. They must also get retested on day five and 13.
The supermarket has also been listed as a tier 4 location with people who entered the store on Friday, July 23 from 1pm to 2pm asked to monitor for symptoms and immediately seek testing as soon as they develop.
The Bunnings at Modbury has been listed as a tier 2 exposure site so those who visited the business along North East Road on Monday, July 19 between 11:45am and 1:45pm need to quarantine for 14 days and get tested on days one, five and 13.
Authorities have also revised the time for the Coles Express at Fairview Park and urge anyone who has been to the tier 1 venue on Monday, July 19 between 7.10am and 7.55am to immediately isolate for 14 days with their household contacts and get tested on days one, five and 13.
The Chiera & Sons Fresh Market (formerly Hollywood Fresh) at Salisbury Downs is no longer considered an exposure site after SA Health re-evaluated the risk.
The Victoria Park testing site that is normally operational 24 hours was closed on Saturday due to poor weather conditions.
The Netball SA site at Mile End opened at 10am this morning and another testing location at Warradale will operate over the weekend, with the help of the Australian Defence Force.
