A South Australian carer has been arrested and charged with assaulting a young disabled man.

The 53-year-old woman, who acted as a carer, allegedly assaulted the young man at Athelstone on Monday, according to police.

The victim was not seriously injured, but the woman has been suspended from her role pending an investigation.

She was charged with aggravated assault and has been bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in March.
