Adelaide driver hit by SUV while changing his tire on a freeway

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, with the pedestrian in critical condition at Royal Adelaide Hospital.

A 23-year-old man has been hit by an SUV while changing his tire off the side of an Adelaide freeway, sending him to the hospital in critical condition.

The Taperoo man had pulled his car into a stopping lane on the Port River Expressway at Wingfield, on Sunday when the incident unfolded.

The car, a grey Subaru Forester 4WD, was parked about 300m west of Hanson Rd as he changed the tire of his car when he was allegedly hit from behind by another driver.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 3.50pm.

The pedestrian was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital and remains in critical condition.

The driver who reportedly hit the pedestrian was a 71 year-old man from Enfield, who was driving a silver Toyota RAV4.

He pulled over his car after the incident.

While he was not physically injured, he was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and had a sample of his blood taken.
