BEYERS AND HOLTERMANN SPECIMEN

While not strictly a nugget, this specimen was the world's largest single mass of gold. Known as a matrix, the lump contained some 3000 ounces of gold.

The specimen was found in the Star of Hope Mine at Hawkins Hill, NSW, in 1872.

THE 'WELCOME STRANGER' NUGGET

Weighing between 2380 and 2284 ounces, this is the world's largest recorded nugget. It was found at Moliagul, near Dunolly in Victoria, in 1869.

Found in 1858 near Ballarat, Victoria, this nugget contained 2195 ounces of gold.
