RUSH HOUR: Stories you need to know today

DONALD Trump isn’t exactly a small man, and apparently Pope Francis freaked out so much he asked Melania: “What are you feeding him?”

Three things we know about the Manchester suicide bomber

Live: Rush Hour

Good morning! A bomb blast has killed three police officers in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. A playboy model who posted a picture of a 71-year-old naked woman in an LA gym has been convicted, and Pope Francis has risked a joke about Donald Trump.

Terrifying details of Manchester bomb

The bomb used in the Manchester attack packed a powerful charge together with a shrapnel of nuts and screws which were meticulously arranged for maximum damage.

Photographs published by the New York Times reveal its full and horrifying impact.

The newspaper published eight exclusive pictures, which were unsourced but appeared to be police photographs taken at the Manchester Arena, where 22 people were killed at the end of an Ariana Grande concert.

Initial analysis of the elements photographed at the scene suggest suicide bomber Salman Abedi carried “an improvised device made with forethought and care”.

The bomb was most likely concealed within a backpack.

Emu causes havoc in Alabama

Americans are good at a lot of things, but wrangling emus is not one of them.

It’s not clear how the native Australian animal ended up running wild on a nature strip in Rainsville, Alabama, but it’s pretty funny watching officials try to lasso it.

Unsurpringly, rope works a little bit better on cattle with horns than goofy birds with tiny heads bobbling around on the top of lanky necks.

The emu was able to evade capture, and its location is now unknown.

Black man receives white penis

A man who has had the world’s third successful penis transplant is reportedly planning to have the organ medically tattooed, because he’s black and it’s white.

The 40-year-old underwent the nine-hour procedure at Tygerberg Hospital, in South Africa, after losing his own 17 years ago in a botched traditional circumcision.

Generally, doctors would try to match the skin colour of the organ to the donor, but in this instance it was the only one available.

“A colour discrepancy between the recipient and the donor organ will be corrected with medical tattooing between six to eight months after the operation,” doctors said in a release.

Professor Andre van der Merwe said the patient was quite emotional and couldn’t believe that he has a penis again after so long.

The man, whose identity has been withheld, is expected to be able to urinate standing up and have functional sex again within six months.

Manchester bomber’s family arrested

The father and two brothers of the Manchester suicide bomber have been arrested over their alleged links to Islamic State.

Salman Abedi’s 20-year-old brother Hashem, who was detained in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, was allegedly planning to carry out a separate attack there.

“We have evidence that he is involved in Daesh (Islamic State) with his brother. We have been following him for more than one month and a half,” a spokesman for a local counter-terrorism force told Reuters.

“He was in contact with his brother and he knew about the attack.”

The Tripoli-based anti-terrorism Special Deterrent Force said Hashem, 20, confessed that both he and Salman were a part of IS.

It follows the earlier arrest of Salman’s other brother Ismail, 23, in Manchester.

Hashem Abedi, 20, was arrested at Tripoli, while his brother Ismail was locked-up in Manchester.

Pope Francis risks Trump joke

Pope Francis has made a joke about US President Donald Trump’s imposing physical size during a meeting at the Vatican.

He asked the First Lady Melania Trump: “What do you feed him on? Potica?”, referring to a calorie-dense cake from her native Slovenia.

It’s pronounced “poteeza” and American reporters in the room initially thought he said “pizza” and was making a fat joke until someone explained it.

However, the couple reportedly took it well and laughed at the custom-made joke.

Mr Trump is 1.88 metres tall and towers over the Pontiff by at least a head.

Model convicted over snap

A playboy model who secretly snapped and posted a picture of a 71-year-old naked woman in a Los Angeles gym locker room has been convicted.

Dani Mathers pleaded no contest to misdemeanour invasion of privacy for Snapchatting the photo along with a mocking comment.

The 30-year-old entered the plea in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday and was sentenced to 30 days of community service removing graffiti.

Mathers was roundly criticised after she took the photo at an LA gym last year and posted it on Snapchat with the caption: “If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either.”

Bomb hits Jakarta bus station

A suicide bombing attack outside a busy bus terminal in the Indonesian capital Jakarta has killed three police officers, the latest assault to hit the Muslim-majority country as it struggles with a surge of terror plots.

Two explosions hit the parking lot next to the Transjakarta bus terminal in the Kampung Melayu district about 9pm Wednesday (midnight Thursday AEST), according to The Jakarta Post.

Five other police officers and five civilians were injured when two bombers launched the attack in a street next to the station.

Human body parts and shattered glass were strewn across the road following the attack, which happened as police were helping to secure a parade by a local group.
