Warning for MP’s threatening to cross floor on royal commission
Cabinet minister Steve Ciobo has fired a warning shot at the three coalition MP’s who are threatening to break ranks to support a banking royal commission.
The disqualification of former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce reduces the number of votes required, with several MP’s now considering crossing the floor to vote against the Federal Government in a push to establish a royal commission to the banks.
But Mr Ciobo has warned against this decision telling ABC radio on Tuesday that: “The royal commission would do basically next to nothing except see millions and millions of dollars go into lawyers pockets rather than actually bringing about the cultural change that’s required.”

Robot can spot cancer in less than a second, experts say
A new trial suggests that an artificial intelligence computer program may be able to identify bowel cancer in under one second.
The AI system was able to pinpoint potentially harmful tumours and distinguish them from benign growths with a 94 per cent accuracy.
Scientists tested the program by getting it to examine 306 bowel growths that may or may not be cancerous, known as colorectal polyps, in 205 men and women.
It took less than a second for the AI to examine the image and decide whether the polyp was cancerous.
“The most remarkable breakthrough with this system is that artificial intelligence enables real-time optical biopsy of colorectal polyps during colonoscopy, regardless of the endoscopists’ skill,” said study leader Dr Yuichi Mori.
“We believe these results are acceptable for clinical application and our immediate goal is to obtain regulatory approval for the diagnostic system.”

Claims that Australians were given cheap flu vaccines “utterly false”
Australia’s Chief Medical Officer has rejected claims that a cheap flu vaccine is partly responsible for failing to protect people from one of the country’s worst flu seasons to date.
There have been accusations that a budget vaccine was to blame for not preventing numerous flu-related deaths among the elderly this year but Professor Brendan Murphy has hit back saying these claims are “utterly false”.
“The flu vaccines chosen this year were the best available in Australian market, selected by medical experts in Australia and around the world,” Professor Murphy said in a media statement.
Professor Murphy responded to reports saying, “I could not be clearer — I completely refute this false claim.”
Approximately 217,000 Australians had confirmed cases of the flu this season, more than double the previous record of 100,000 in 2015.

Cyclist flips off Trump as he drives past her
A cyclist gave Donald Trump the middle finger has he passed her on the road in his motorcade.
The president was leaving the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia when a woman riding a bike cycled beside his car just to flip him off.
She did this not once but twice, catching up to Trump once they overtook her so she could give him the finger again.
A group of protesters has gathered outside the club while he was playing golf, with one woman holding a sign with the words “impeach” written on it.
A White House press pool report was released detailing the incident, stating “
“POTUS’s motorcade departed the Trump National Golf Club at 3.12pm, passing two pedestrians, one of whom gave a thumbs-down sign. Then it overtook a female cyclist, wearing a white top and cycling helmet, who responded by giving the middle finger.”

Student rejects award from ‘No’ voting MP
A Year 12 student has announced she will be returning an award she received at her graduation ceremony after finding out it was sponsored by a local member of parliament who does not support same sex marriage.
Grace Gouldstone, from Duncraig Senior High School in Perth, received the “Ian Goodenough award for a positive attitude and contribution to the school” but has refused to keep it as she feels the MP does not support the values that the award reflects.
Gouldstone outlined her reasons for rejecting the award in a letter to her principal.
“Mr Goodenough publicly voted No for the same-sex marriage postal vote and to me this does not reflect the positive beliefs of valuing diversity, inclusivity and most especially equality,” she wrote.
Mr Goodenough responded to Ms Gouldstone’s comments by congratulating on her award, even though she chose not to accept it.

Heroin injecting room gets green light
The first trial run for a safe injecting room for heroin addicts has been approved in Victoria.
The injecting centre will allow addicts a safe space to take heroin where doctors and counselling services are on hand and will be trialled in Melbroune’s inner suburb of Richmond.
Cabinet’s approval of the trial comes amid a growing heroin crisis in the state, with the trial reportedly set to be run for two years followed by a review.
If the trial goes well and the room is given the go-ahead it will be the second establishment of its type in Australia, with the first being set up in 2001 in Kings Cross in Sydney, NSW.
