Smoke engulfs Eiffel Tower

Dramatic pictures have emerged showing the Eiffel Tower engulfed in smoke after a truck accidentally caught fire nearby.

Paris police were quick to tweet that the fire was now out while urging people not to spread false information.

Police said the incident did not appear to be terror related.

The incident comes on top of today’s terrible tragedy in Nice where more than 70 people were killed after a truck ploughed into crowds of people.

Pokemon pair mugged in park

Two people playing PokemonGo were approached by gun-wielding thieves while playing the popular game in a Sydney park last night.

Police said the couple drove to a skate park at Tahmoor at 7pm last night but found their way blocked by a white ute after entering the car park.

It’s alleged two men wearing balaclavas then sprung out and threatened the pair with a rifle before fleeing empty-handed.

Police said there was no suggestion the men used the game to lure people to the area.

Nice death toll rises

At least 73 people are now dead after a truck ploughed into a crowd who were celebrating Bastille Day in the resort city of Nice.

A spokesman for France’s Interior Ministry said “it’s going to be a very high toll” as reports emerge of more than 70 people dead and at least 100 more injured.

Witnesses said the scene was utter carnage with one telling CNN he saw a driver accelerate and zigzag into people while another said he opened fire on a crowd of people.

French media also reported the gunman got back into the truck before driving to another area and opening fire again.

Bail for Whittington

The man who allegedly organised the botched 60 Minutes kidnap attempt has been released on bail after spending 100 days in a Lebanese jail.

Adam Whittington, who is a dual Australian-British national, and two colleagues were charged with kidnapping after the botched attempt to take back Brisbane mum Sally Faulkner’s two children from a Beirut street in April.

The attempt was filmed by a 60 Minutes crew who were jailed but later allowed to return home to Australia following the saga.

A Facebook support page for Whittington confirmed he has been granted bail and that he will be allowed to return home.

Mr Whittington’s lawyer Joe Karam told the ABC he had been granted $27,000 bail. However it is understood the kidnapping charges against him and Ms Faulker still stand.

Did astronauts see a UFO?

This blurry image taken from a YouTube video has generated a little bit of excitement among alien enthusiasts.

The still, captured by a camera on-board the International Space Station, shows what appears to be a meteor or a light moving through the sky.

But it is the pause in the video which aroused some suspicions.

Since being posted on YouTube by Streetcap1 last week, the video has attracted a host of comments from many who claimed it was NASA shutting down the feed to hide evidence of alien life.

However NASA dismissed the talk and said it was a technical fault of one of the cameras on board the International Space Station, Fox News reported.

“Dear Nice, the driver of a truck appears to have made dozens of deaths. Stay for the moment at your home. More info to come.”

It is not yet clear if it was a terrorist attack, however videos on social media show people running for their lives and bullet holes can be seen in the windscreen of the truck.

Ghostly image captured after deadly accident

Ghost enthusiasts believe a picture taken just moments after a fatal accident captures a spirit hovering over a dead body.

Saul Vazquez snapped this image from the back of his car on Tuesday afternoon as emergency crews were on the scene on Highway 15 near stanton, Kentucky.

The person on the motorbike was the only person involved in the crash and died, WLEX reported.

But it wasn’t until Mr Vazquez posted it on Facebook that it really caught people’s attention with many commentating it was the dead person hovering over the scene.

His post has since been shared thousands of times since being posted on Tuesday.

World reacts to Boris and it’s not kind

He is known for being gaffe prone and embarrassing for the British.

Now the world has let UK Foreign Minister Boris Johnson know what it really thinks of him, and it’s not exactly nice.

The White House is pushing back on suggestions that Ms May’s choice will be problematic for the US after Johnson had previously described Obama as a “part-Kenyan” who had an “ancestral dislike of the British Empire.”

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama isn’t seeking an apology from Johnson but is confident the US will keep working to strengthen relations “irrespective of specific personalities.”

The French have been brutal predicting he will have an uphill struggle ahead of him.

Meanwhile Germany’s finance minister is signalling a willingness to forget past statements by Boris Johnson after comparing the bloc’s aims with those of Adolf Hitler. Asked what he expected of working with Johnson, given such comments, Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said “you see that it’s an advantage not to have such a great command of the English language.”

The boy was at Kmart Joondalup with his mother on Monday afternoon when he began to choke.

Ambulance crews were called but the boy was unconscious when paramedics arrived and could not be saved, Perth Now reported.

Police said the boy’s death is not suspicious and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.

Not happy China

China is not very happy with Australia at the moment after Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said countries should keep exercising their international rights to freedom of navigation and overflight.

Speaking following the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s ruling that China had no historic claim to the waters in the South China Sea, Ms Bishop was standing firm about her comments.

The comments were met with a frosty reception from China which took exception with Australia’s “wrong remarks” and said it hoped Australia does nothing to harm regional peace and stability.
