Chelsea Clinton said Friday she is quitting her job as a reporter at NBC News, citing increased work at the Clinton Foundation and the imminent birth of her first child.
Bill and Hillary Clinton’s daughter had been working at the network since 2011, sporadically doing feature stories on people or organisations doing public-spirited work. Politico magazine reported earlier this year that NBC was paying her $600,000 a year.
Her exit removes some potential awkwardness for the network if her mother runs for president in 2016. NBC made certain to keep Clinton off the air around the time her mother was making media appearances to promote a book, to avoid any appearance of conflict.

At 127 years, Leandra Becerra Lumbreras is not only the oldest woman in the world, she’s reportedly the oldest person who has ever lived.
The former seamstress, who has outlived her five children and many of her 55 grandchildren, credits her long life to long naps, snacking and never marrying.
She apparently loves chocolate too.

Two children and two women were killed when an explosion ripped through an apartment building outside Paris, reducing half a residential block to rubble, emergency services said.
A child described as around 10 years old, as well as a boy aged 14 to 18, were among the bodies recovered from the remains of the four-storey building in the northeastern suburb of Rosny-sous-Bois after the disaster on Sunday.
“Our house moved, we were trembling from fear,” said Pauline, a neighbour who lives 100 metres from the collapsed building. The explosion, at around 8am (4pm AEST), was so loud that “our ears were ringing,” she added.

Justin Bieber’s poor grandpa is either the coolest or most patient man alive.
He has featured in an Instagram video of the singer playing basketball, but the only part of grandpa that touched the ball was his head.

Nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence and a number of other celebrities are reportedly making their way around the internet.
The photos of Lawrence claim to show her in bathing suits or fully nude and appear to be taken in various locations including a dressing room, while others are more intimate.
Lawrence’s spokespeople said: “This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence.”

A pedestrian was killed this morning after being hit by a truck during peak hour traffic.
Cars on the Westgate Freeway were banked up for more than an hour as authorities tried to save the man.
“Unfortunately the man couldn’t be revived and died at the scene”, a spokesman for Ambulance Victoria said.

Passers-by swarmed around an armoured truck that rolled over on a US highway, spilling bags of money.
“There were bags of it all over the place,” Deputy Fire Chief Paul L Valletta Jr, told the Providence Journal. “There were quite a few people here”.
It was unclear whether anyone took any money, which was strewn about in clear plastic bags and white canvas duffel bags.

Two of Australia’s sporting greats have become embroiled in a Twitter feud, with Shane Warne questioning Adam Goodes’ Australian of the Year honour.
Warne was watching the Sydney-Richmond game on Saturday night when he urged Goodes to stop staging for free kicks.
He then claimed to be “shocked” over Goodes’ Australian of the Year award, which he was given seven months ago.
Warne tweeted: “Come on tigers beat those Swans and make the finals. By the way, does everyone get annoyed when Adam Goodes always ‘stages’ for free kicks?”
Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke responded to Warne’s tweet with: “Goodes is a legend mate. Swans to win the flag champion.”

Daredevils are shutting down Melbourne’s underground City Loop and trapping commuters on trains as they play railway roulette through the tunnel.
Fifteen train lines run through the four tunnels inside the busy rail Loop and more than one can grind to a halt until the trespassers are caught.
The Herald Sun revealed there were 22 incidents of people entering the tunnels in the past three years, including 10 this financial year.
Metro spokesman Larisa Tait said people jumping off the platform and on to the tracks to gain entry into the tunnel were gambling with their lives.

ASIO is investigating reports the head of Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has appointed a 40-year-old Sydney man to a senior military leadership role in northern Iraq.
An Iraqi news website is reporting that an Australian fighting with Islamic State, and who goes by the name Abu Yahya ash Shami, has been named the military commander for the town of Jalula in northern Iraq.
According to The Australian, the report could not be verified and there is a possibility it is a case of mistaken identity, as the nom de guerre quoted was used by Zakaryah Raad, an Australian man who was killed while fighting with Islamic State.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tony Abbott has agreed to a US request to transport arms and munitions to Kurdish fighters battling Islamic State militants in the war-torn country.
SAS troops will reportedly fly on Australian Air Force transport planes when Australia delivers arms and munitions to Kurdish fighters in Iraq.

Sydney commuters are being warned of possible delays this morning as passengers switch to the new Opal card.
As of today, 14 ticket types will not longer be available including the MyTrain weekly as well as other monthly and periodical tickets.
NSW Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian has warned of delays due to long queues.
People will still be able to buy single and return paper tickets. Pensioners and seniors will also be able to keep buying and using their paper tickets.
You can order an Opal card online or buy one at 7-Eleven and Woolworths as well as at pop-up kiosks at train stations.

Clive Palmer is in battle with a disability pensioner over the right to use the name of his Palmersaurus dinosaur park and a trademark feud over his north Queensland nickel refinery.
Michael Joseph Farrell, 58, is in the sights of the federal MP’s lawyers after registering several business names used by Mr Palmer and applying to trademark the name “Palmer Nickel and Cobalt Refinery”.
According to the Courier-Mail, Mr Farrell’s actions are aimed squarely at the mining magnate.
“I dislike Clive Palmer profusely and I just wanted to undertake actions that will put him on the spot,” Mr Farrell said.
Queensland Nickel is fighting to block the trademark application lodged by Mr Farrell in December.
Mr Palmer personally applied to trademark the same name in June, but that application could now be struck out because it is too close to Mr Farrell’s.
