Jed Coates, 18, was celebrating the Blues’ win on Wednesday night before he was allegedly shot dead by a Queensland fan.

Police were unsure what prompted the fight between the two men or if their support for opposing State of Origin sides sparked the argument, which began at the Colyton Hotel. The pair were thrown out by hotel staff.

Police said Coates shouted “shoot me” at his alleged killer, Matthew James Perry, 21, before he was shot in the neck in Nevada Ave at 11pm on Wednesday.

According to Fairfax, members of the Australian Federal Police have been assigned to protect Treasurer Joe Hockey, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Education Minister Christopher Pyen and junior defence minister Stuart Robert.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison has also been assigned protection but this is believed to be due to controversy over his portfolio and not the Budget.

Senior government sources say the level of protection required is unusual.

US President Barack Obama says he is ready to send 300 military advisers to Iraq and if necessary to take ‘targeted’ and ‘precise’ military action to counter radical Sunni fighters.

But he repeatedly insisted US troops would not be going back in to direct combat in Iraq.

Obama on Thursday said Washington was ready to deploy advisers to study how to train and equip Iraqi forces.

He said it was a good investment for Washington to intervene if it prevented Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fighters establishing bases which could eventually pose a threat to the West.

This would allow foreign banks more freedom to operate in Australia and for them to bring their own “temporary” financial and information technology workers here. It could also see our bank account and financial data freely transferred overseas where Australian privacy laws would not apply.

Details of the negotiations were revealed in a secret draft text for the Trade in Services Agreement, which has been posted online by WikiLeaks.

Other countries taking part in the negotiations include Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the European Union.
