A VICTORIAN teenager who allegedly sexually assaulted eight women in the middle of the day on a Queensland beach blames the weather for his actions.
A VICTORIAN teenager who allegedly sexually assaulted eight women in broad daylight on a Queensland beach blames the weather for his actions.
The Southport Magistrates Court heard the 18-year-old Pakistan national claimed heavy surf and wind caused him to collide with his alleged victims at a Gold Coast beach on Tuesday.
It is alleged the man who committed the attacks did so in between the red and yellow flags at Surfers Paradise beach in the space of half an hour, between 12.10pm and 12.40pm.
The Geelong teenager allegedly assaulted eight women, aged between 15 and 24.
The court heard he allegedly touched two of the females through their bikini bottoms and Magistrate John Costanzo told the court the man claimed the contact was accidental.
Mr Costanzo refused the man’s application for bail and said his explanation seemed implausible.
“The crown will argue that’s the most unfortunate conspiracy of circumstances in history,” he said.
Police also dismissed the teenager’s excuse for the alleged assault and have not ruled out there could be more victims and are urging them to come forward.
The teenager is 170cm tall with a slim build, dark curly hair and olive skin.
“The reality is we have individual reports — very firmly stating — these were deliberate acts,” Detective Acting Inspector Greg Aubort said.
“If you look at the surf from yesterday, it was two to three feet, it was nothing startling in that sense.”
The teenager, a trainee mechanic, was on holiday with a family friend at the time of the alleged assaults.
“My view of the facts in this case is the crown case appears to be quite strong in the allegation of eight separate brazen and repeated sexual assaults and attempted rape,” Mr Costanzo said.
“It’s an indication of a person having great difficulty controlling their sexual instincts.”
The matter has been adjourned until February 11.
