‘Spider-Man’ Queensland police officer scales balcony and fights fire

Incredible video footage of a rookie police officer in Queensland scaling to the second-storey of an apartment block has been released.

Incredible video footage of a rookie police officer in North Queensland scaling to the second-storey of an apartment block to douse a raging fire has been released.

The cop who brought out his inner Spider-Man was first-year Constable Alexander Campbell of Ingham Police.

Constable Campbell happened to be at the property making routine inquiries when he noticed the orange flames burning on the exterior of the second-storey.

“I just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” he told the Today show on Wednesday morning.

“Just fortunate that I saw it out of the corner of my eye. We managed to get a really good result from just getting up there efficiently and putting out the fire.”

The first-year cop’s body-cam footage shows he scales the wall and, just as he climbed over the balcony, his partner Senior Constable Steven Anquetil throws him a small fire extinguisher in a perfect pass.

“I just quickly walked towards the house. And instead of walking through the actual dwelling, I thought I may as well just climb up the outside while my partners were getting fire extinguishers and hoses,” he said.

“The throw and the catch just all worked out really well.”

Constable Campbell went on to say how glad he was they hadn’t just left the property and noticed the fire.

“I’d hate to think what would have happened if we just left the address without even noticing that the blaze was happening,” he said.

“Because it could have potentially caused a lot of damage and caused the house to burn down. A house is everyone’s castle, it’s their pride and joy. I hate [to] have to think how it would have happened.”

Despite being praised as a hero for his quick thinking, the young police officer humbly reminded people that he’s just doing his job.

“I don’t know if hero is the right word. I was just doing my job. I just want to go to work and help people. That’s my main goal every day,” he said.

A former tradie from Toowoomba, the young officer said he had zero regrets transitioning from one industry to another.

“It’s the best job I’ve ever had hands down, you are up here working with great people at Ingham Police Station and obviously the training I have received down at the Townsville Academy is first class, which has set me up for hopefully a life-long career until retirement,” he said, as reported by the Townsville Bulletin.
