Queensland Police divers find body of missing boatie at Somerset Dam
Emergency services were called to a popular damn after reports a speed boat capsized.
The body of a missing boatie has been found after a speed boat capsized northwest of Brisbane.
Authorities were called to Lake Somerset after a boat capsized bout 9am on Sunday.
Queensland Police confirmed the body of a 45-year-old Clagiraba man was found in the water near his boat about 4pm following a wide scale search and rescue operation.
Emergency services were initially called to a location near Esk Kilcoy Rd about 9am following reports of a missing boat.
A search and rescue operation was launched, involving water police, specialist officers, aerial assets, and partner agencies.
Officers are appealing to anyone who may have relevant vision or may have witnessed the incident to contact police.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Rescue helicopters were also assisting in the search for the boat’s driver.

A personal watercraft racing event was being held at the dam over the weekend.
It’s understood the boat was not a part of the racing activities on Sunday.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service Crews have since left the scene after the boat was found.
Seq Water has also issued a warning that all recreation areas at Somerset Dam are closed until further notice due to the on-water incident requiring emergency services.
