Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk reveals reopening date for state border
Annastacia Palaszczuk has hinted at when Queensland’s border could reopen, and it could be earlier than expected.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will on Monday reveal when the state’s border will reopen for interstate travellers.
The Sunshine State is approaching the all-important 80 per cent double-vaccination rate, with the government on Sunday revealing 78.17 per cent of the population had received two jabs.
December 10 had been provisionally flagged as the date on which Queensland would pass the 80 per cent mark which would give the green light for people from interstate hot spots to cross the border without the need for quarantine.
That target looks set to be hit in the coming days and Palaszczuk did not rule out an early Christmas present for interstate travellers and a sooner-than-expected border opening.
She said she would on Monday reveal when Queensland would cross the 80 per cent double dose threshold.
“We’ve got a meeting tomorrow morning to look at our projections and we’ll see how we’re going,” she said.
“I’ll be updating everyone tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Queensland recorded six new Covid-19 infections on Sunday, with all cases being in quarantine.
Five of the cases were interstate arrivals and another an international arrival from the Philippines who tested positive while in hotel quarantine.
Three of the interstate arrivals were a family who were in home quarantine but have since been moved to hospital.
Queensland Health said none of the six cases were in the community while infectious.
