Qld Premier accused of ‘ignoring health advice’ on travelling after COVID test
The State Opposition has accused Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk of ignoring her own government’s health advice after it was revealed she had been tested for COVID-19.
The State Opposition has accused Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk of ignoring her own government’s health advice after it was revealed she had been tested for COVID-19.
Ms Palaszczuk appeared to have a croaky voice during an online debate on Monday.
She has spent the past few days on the regional road, at former Mackay MP Tim Mulherin’s funeral and attending media events in the Whitsundays and Bundaberg.
A spokesperson from the Premier’s office confirmed Ms Palaszczuk began feeling unwell on Wednesday afternoon and was tested upon arriving back in Brisbane.
Ms Palaszczuk found her test result was negative on Thursday morning.
Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates accused the premier of contradicting her own advice and said it raised “many questions”.
“The official advice is that if people are feeling unwell they should get tested, they should stay home and isolate until they get the result,” Ms Bates said.
“It was not only reckless that the premier didn’t follow her own department’s health advice, but if she had tested positive it could have created two new clusters in regional Queensland.

“It seems there is one rule for her and another rule for everyone else.”
During a press conference on Thursday morning, Treasurer Cameron Dick defended Ms Palaszczuk for “doing the right thing”.
“She’s listened to the health advice... she had a COVID test that came back negative,” Mr Dick told media.
“She’s obeyed the science.”
