Woman’s heartbreaking final words to boyfriend before fatal bus crash
The boyfriend of a woman tragically killed when a bus careened off the road in a city CBD has revealed her heartbreaking final words to him.
The boyfriend of a teenager fatally struck by a bus in Brisbane’s CBD has revealed the final heartbreaking words she said to him before her tragic death.
Tia Cameron was killed on March 8 after a bus mounted the footpath on Edward St in the city, pinning her against the Anzac Square arcade building.
A 70-year-old man has since been charged with one count of careless driving causing death.
Speaking to Nine News, Hayden McKinlay revealed he received a video message from Ms Cameron showing off the beauty treatment shortly after leaving a salon that day.
They also spoke on the phone, with Mr McKinlay revealing their last words were: “I love you and I’ll see you soon.”
“I still think I’m still going to hear from her, I’m still going to see her. The truth is it’s not going to happen,” Mr McKinlay said
“We had so much planned together – to travel, to buy our first home, to have children. It was all there, until this happened.”
Mr McKinlay broke his silence three months after Ms Cameron’s death, which sparked an outpouring of grief across Queensland.
Emergency services rushed to the busy thoroughfare in Brisbane’s CBD after reports a bus left the road, striking Ms Cameron before colliding with a nearby building.
The driver of the bus and four passengers suffered minor injuries in the collision and were taken to hospital for assessment.
On Tuesday, Queensland Police announced 70-year-old bus driver Lindsay Selby had been charged with one count of careless driving causing death.
They were issued a notice for the charge and are expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 26.
