Three people are fighting for their lives after a serious crash on Queensland’s notorious Bruce Highway.
Emergency services, including two rescue helicopters, were called to crash near Marlborough, south of Mackay, about 1pm on Thursday following reports of a truck and car rollover on the intersection of the Bruce and Marlborough Road.
It’s understood a B-double truck crashed into a car and rolled on its side on the highway, the Courier-Mail said.
An ambulance spokesperson said five people had suffered life-threatening and serious injuries.
“One male in his 20s (has) life-threatening head, chest and abdominal injuries,” the spokesperson told NewsWire.
“A female in her 50s (has) life-threatening abdominal and leg injuries.
“A man in his 30s (has) life-threatening leg, chest and hip injuries.”
Two of the patients have been airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital.
Another has been transported to the same hospital by ambulance.
Two men, both aged in their 20s, have both suffered “significant injuries”, one suffering arm, leg and shoulder injuries, and the other with abdominal injuries.
They are in a stable condition.
The Bruce Highway is closed in both directions, there are currently no diversions in the place.
The highway is expected to be closed for several hours while the Forensic Crash Unit investigate.
“Motorists are urged to avoid the area,” a spokesperson for Queensland Police said.
More to come.
