Police are now calling for public assistance following the five separate crashes along the Bruce Hwy in Tanawha, on the Sunshine Coast.
A Queensland Police spokesman said officers were first called to the highway near Ilkley Rd just before 8pm on Sunday, after a car travelling northbound left the road and collided with a barrier.
The driver, a 37-year-old Graceville man, then exited the crashed vehicle and ran across the highway into southbound traffic.

As a result a car was forced to swerve to avoid the man, rolling multiple times.
A B-double truck travelling northbound at the same time was forced to swerve to avoid the initial crash but struck another car in the left-hand lane, causing it to roll.
The Queensland Police spokesman said ten vehicles were involved in the five separate crashes, with six people taken to hospital with minor injuries.
This included the Graceville man, who was struck by a vehicle a short time after running into southbound traffic.
Officers have urged anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
Investigations are continuing.
