Queensland records 13 new Covid cases on seventh day of lockdown

Queensland has recorded 13 new cases of Covid-19 on the seventh day of the state’s lockdown.

Queensland recorded 13 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said all of the cases were linked to the Indooroopilly cluster which plunged the state into lockdown.

Twelve of the 13 cases were not in the community during their infectious period, and the state is “getting details on” the 13th case, Mr Miles said.

“Two are household contacts of a known case at the Indooroopilly karate class,” he said.

“One is a close contact from the karate class, five cases are household contacts of Ironside State School and four cases are household contacts of Indooroopilly High School.

“One is a close contact at Brisbane boys Grammar School.”

Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young said the 13th case was a child and investigations were underway as to whether they had been in the community.

“I am pretty confident that all 13 were probably in quarantine for their full infectious period,” she said.

“I just need to get that last bit of information.”

There are now 102 cases in the cluster, first detected at Indooroopilly State High School last week.

Meanwhile, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will leave quarantine on Sunday after returning to Queensland from the Tokyo Olympics.

Mr Miles said her final Covid test had returned a negative result.

“She is looking forward to being released tomorrow morning,” he said.

It follows the state recording 10 new cases on Friday, also all linked to the Indooroopilly cluster, which has resulted in the infection of dozens of children from three Brisbane high schools and a primary school.

The 11 local government areas of South East Queensland are in their seventh day of strict lockdown, which the chief health officer hopes she can ease as planned at 4pm on Sunday.

An announcement on if restrictions will ease is expected tomorrow.

Ms Young said residents of Cairns in particular were urged to get tested after a vaccinated reef pilot was discovered to have the Delta variant this week.

“Please, Cairns, you have done a great job coming out and getting tested since you heard about that pilot being positive,” she said.

“I need that to continue that for a few more days.”
