Allegedly armed man shot dead by police on busy Logan Motorway

Police say they the man was walking along the highway, allegedly armed with a weapon before he confronted police.

An armed man has been shot dead by police on a busy Brisbane motorway on Thursday morning.

In a statement, Queensland police said they were called to the Logan Motorway at Drewvale following reports a man had been walking alongside the road, creating a hazard to other road users.

Officers were “immediately confronted” with a 22-year-old Calamvale man who allegedly threatened officers with a knife.

Police shot the man before immediately rendering first aid.

“He died a short time later,” the statement read.

Some reports suggest he was shot up to three times and died at the scene.

Eastbound lanes remain closed on the motorway, with motorists urged to avoid the area as delays are expected.

Police have advised motorists to seek alternative routes as they say “significant delays are expected for most of the day”.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the incident, with the investigation to be overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
