Police probe launched after more than 35 horses shot dead at rural Qld property
Detectives have launched an investigation to track down those responsible for a horror find of dead animals on a rural Queensland property.
A police investigation has been launched after more than 35 horses were found shot dead on a rural Queensland property.
The horses – which included several pregnant mares and foals – were found dead on large rural property on Cramsie Muttaburra Road in Longreach with multiple gunshot wounds.
Initial investigations suggest the horses were killed between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Detectives from the Longreach major and organised crime squad (MOCS) are carrying out further investigations and are searching for any additional wounded or deceased horses on the 2023 hectare property.
Detective Sergeant Allan Cook, officer in charge of the Longreach MOCS, said these kinds of incidents had a devastating impact on rural communities.
“Queensland Police is working extremely closely with partner agencies to identify the person or people responsible,” Sergeant Cook said.
“We are strongly appealing to anyone with information to talk to police immediately.”
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity on this road in the past few days to come forward.
