Police investigating death of a two-year-old girl in Eungella
An investigation was launched after the child was found unresponsive in a vehicle.
A two-year-old girl was found dead in a remote mountain community in Queensland.
Detectives from the Mackay Child Protection and Investigation Unit declared a crime scene at a house in Eungella, about 80km west of Mackay, following the sudden death of the girl at a property on Bee Creek Road.
Police were called to the property at 2.20pm on Sunday and found the child unresponsive in a vehicle.
“An investigation has commenced and detectives will work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the police said in a statement.
Police have since said initial investigations have determined there were no suspicious circumstances.
Investigators will prepare a report for the coroner.
Eungella is famed as a gateway to Eungella National Park, home to an extensive platypus population.
A single road connects to the small town to the Pioneer Valley and broader Mackay region.
