Man arrested, charged over double murder at Brisbane bed and breakfast
The 31-year-old son charged with the murders of his two parents in their Brisbane home drove 900km to Sydney before he was arrested.
A Queensland man will remain behind bars in NSW for at least another day before potentially being extradited to the Sunshine State over his parents’ murder.
Christopher Puglia, 31, appeared today at Sydney’s Parramatta Local Court after being charged under a Queensland warrant over the deaths of his parents Frank and Loris, both 59.
Their bodies were found at their home at Joyner, north of Brisbane, on Sunday.
Queensland Police alleges Puglia killed his parents on Saturday.
NSW highway patrol officers acting on intelligence stopped and arrested Puglia on the M1 at Berowra in northern Sydney, about four hours after the discovery of the bodies.
Magistrate Rodney Brender formally refused Puglia bail on Monday. Puglia will return to court on Tuesday to face extradition, with Queensland detectives expected to travel to Sydney for the hearing.
Puglia’s car has been seized and will undergo forensic tests. Queensland Police did not confirm media reports a sledgehammer may have been used in the crime.
Tributes, meanwhile, have begun to appear for Loris, who worked as a telemarketer for Guide Dogs Queensland, and Frank.
“We are sending our love and support to their family and friends during this difficult time,” Guide Dogs Queensland CEO Michael Knightley said in a statement.
“Loris was a much-loved member of the Guide Dogs family and we are offering support to her colleagues who have been deeply impacted by this tragedy.”
Others paid tribute on Facebook.
“This is just a tragedy. Loris would have done anything for anyone,” one person wrote.
“Loris was such a light and helped so many,” wrote another.
“So sad that your lives have been cut short and your vibrancy has been taken away from all those who love you. On angels wings and now protected RIP Frank and Loris Puglia,” another tribute read.
