The frantic search for high profile judge Guy Andrew who vanished after leaving his Queensland home on Sunday has entered a worrying new stage.

Police divers have now begun scouring the waterways of Brisbane’s D’Aguilar National Park where the Federal Circuit Court Judge is known to take regular walks.

It comes as SES crews and Queensland police officers scoured 40km of dense bushland yesterday, but failed to find Judge Andrew who left his north Brisbane home before sunrise on Sunday.

It’s understood he drove towards Mount Coot-Tha and his car was later located about 2pm that same day on Dillon Rd at The Gap.

A ground search of Mount Coot-Tha began on Sunday with the use of police officers and about 40 SES volunteers — but now the focus has shifted to the nearby Enoggera Reservoir.

Judge Andrew has been described as white, about 176cm tall with grey hair and brown eyes. Police and the man’s family hold concerns for his welfare, though police said they did not believe his disappearance was suspicious.

Judge Andrew was recently criticised by the Full Court of the Family Court regarding his behaviour, the Courier Mailreports.

In a late August, the court ordered a retrial in a family law case he had presided over where he was found to be “hectoring, belittling, sarcastic and rude” towards lawyers for the father.

Former president of the Queensland Law Society, Bill Potts, said Judge Andrew’s disappearance was “enormously worrying” for his family and friends and they were wishing for a “swift” return.

He said the circumstances showed “judges were human beings”.

“They face enormous pressure, they work under extraordinary circumstances, public scrutiny and sometimes criticism,” he said.

“It’s often said to be one of the loneliest jobs in the world.”
