One dead, one critical after school bus, 4WD crash near Gympie
In an incident that left one person dead and another critical, the children escaped their school bus after the crash by breaking the rear window glass.
One man has died and another is fighting for life after a four-wheel drive collided with a school bus in regional Queensland on Tuesday.
The two vehicles collided at the intersection of Kin Kin and Wilsons Pocket roads in Wolvi, near Gympie, about 3:45pm.
It’s understood the men were trapped inside their vehicle for a number of hours while emergency services worked to free them, while school children inside the bus broke the rear window glass to escape.
The 68-year-old driver of the Landcruiser was taken to hospital in a critical condition, while his passenger, a 29-year-old fellow Goomboorian man, died at the scene.
Paramedics said 29 people in total were involved with the crash, but none of the school students required hospitalisation.
The bus driver, a 53-year-old Goomeri woman, was taken to hospital in a stable condition with leg injuries.
Forensic Crash Unit are investigating, but police are asking anyone with further information to contact them.
