Nevaeh Austin leaves hospital after being left on a hot bus
The three-year-old girl left inside a hot bus for six hours has made a miraculous recovery after initially being given a five per cent chance of recovering.
The little girl critically injured after being left inside a hot bus for six hours has miraculously been discharged from hospital, five days on from the traumatic ordeal.
Nevaeh Austin was found unconscious in her car seat in a bus at Le Smiley’s Early Learning Centre in Gracemere, Rockhampton, Wednesday afternoon.
She was flown to Brisbane’s Queensland Children’s Hospital and initially given just a five per cent chance of survival.
The three-year-old has since made remarkable strides in her recovery however, with her grandmother Pam Parker telling Courier Mail she had Facetimed Neveah, who ate ice cream during the chat.
“There are no words that I can find to describe the feeling, how I felt when I saw her the first time yesterday and last night, it was just amazing,” she said.
“My baby little girl, she’s a fighter.”
In a photo taken from the hospital, she was shown sleeping calmly in bed as her dad watched on.
She was on Saturday shifted to a regular ward where she remained in a stable condition, and has now been discharged to fly home with her parents, according to ABC News.
The Department of Education and police have established an investigation into the incident.
Nevaeh was the only child on board the vehicle when she was found, and two staff members were in attendance, police allege.
Capricornia Police District Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow said it was the bus driver and another person at the initial scene.
“It would appear that Neva was the only child on the bus at the time,” he said

“It would appear there were some breaches of policy.”
